For our movements + conscious businesses to grow, people need to be invited.

We (humans) want to belong and to be a part of something big.

we each have unique strengths and talents but cannot be everything this world needs on our own. we need to connect. like members of one body.

The problem is, the system - especially social media - currently keeps us disconnected + distracted.

it’s way too easy to escape from reality into fiction. whether it’s a hollywood film or a clip of a cat being…a cat, we watch to distract ourselves from the brokenness around us.

we’ve become addicted to watching pretend and bland stories because we’ve forgotten how to tell our own.

We can grow our liberatory movements + businesses by leveraging social media for good.

here’s the good news: even though we’ve forgotten the art of story-telling, that doesn’t mean we don’t have any to tell. we absolutely do. stories that aren’t simply meant to entertain or evoke comfort and nostalgia; but inspire, compel, and invite others into participating in them.

have you ever finished a book or walked out of a movie theater wishing you could step into that world? we can tell the stories of our organizing, healing and transformative work in a way that drives people to want to become part of it; guiding people out of fantasy and into reality.

Video is the most powerful media tool at our disposal right now.

a few stats to consider:

  • By 2022, online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic — 15 times higher than it was in 2017

  • Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in text

  • 92% of users watching video on mobile will share it with others

I’ve designed INVITE to help you call people into your movement (and in a way that compels them to actually show up).

INVITE is for you if you:

  • have a vision you desperately believe in

  • are excited to call others into that vision

  • are looking for help honing that vision into a compelling message

  • are tired of spending time and resources on ‘marketing’ instead of the actual work you want to do

  • are seeking to make a positive transformation

  • believe in the value and dignity of all people

  • have an existing audience/base that you’re looking to grow

By the end of INVITE, you’ll have:

  • a 3-5 min video and < 60 sec ‘trailer’ so that your video content can span all forms of social media

  • a concise, authentic, and compelling message to use across any medium

  • a renewed energy and belief in your vision and work

  • a resource that will help you grow your audience

  • time and energy to get to the work you want to do

If you sense INIVTE might be what you need, let’s talk —

Ian is a talented videographer, who created a captivating and high-quality video. His ability to use video, music, and even B roll to clearly summarize and communicate the essence of my message was masterfully done. I highly recommend him.

Kelly Behrend

Ian is a compelling storyteller because he’s a deep listener. My business partner Kelly and I got to spend 3 days working with Ian, and most of it was spent diving deep into the beliefs, challenges, and opportunities of what we’re building at Energetic Justice. We sat around, drank tea, brainstormed, and shared our story with no rush or seeming agenda. It felt authentic and easy to work with Ian because he’s genuinely curious about movement building - he has a way of asking great questions and illuminating the threads of a story that we might not have immediately seen. Ian was so collaborative with us during the editing process too - it was smooth and a quick turnaround. So grateful to Ian for his commitment to lifting up movement work in the world - I feel honored to be in his portfolio of work!

Working on a video with Ian is about as perfect an experience I've ever had. He asked great questions and listened carefully to my answers. He really got the look and feel of our event and communicated our vision beautifully. The final product is a joyous and fun capture of all the people who came out for our bike ride.

Andrew Hermann

Working with Ian was a smooth, valuable, and incredibly enjoyable process. His professionalism and talent for video creation is quickly seen in the high quality of the products he creates. I highly recommend Ian for any small business owner or nonprofit looking for promotional video material and digital storytelling to give them an edge in the marketplace and/or present to donors, friends, and customers.

The Structure

  • Free Consult

    • 15-30 minutes where you get to talk about your work and ask my questions to make sure we’d be a good fit.

  • Pre-Interview

    • We take a deep dive into your story and understand where exactly you want to go with it. We’ll also begin forming a plan for how to get there so that once you have your finished product, you’ll know how you want to use it.

  • Story Board

    • I’ll take all the information from above and create a “broad strokes” idea for you to review before shooting.

  • Interview/Shooting

    • We do the fun/terrifying (depending on your camera comfort) work of shooting your story as well as capture any other content that helps support the narrative.

  • 2 Drafts

    • You’ll receive the first draft as a rough edit, but one that gives an accurate feel of the final product and use the outline I provide to give feedback/edits.

    • You’ll then receive a second draft much closer to the final product and use the outline I provide to give final and more nuanced edits.

  • Final

    • The moment you’ve been waiting for!

      • 1 video around 3-5 minutes for an in-depth look at your work to use across a variety of platforms.

      • 1 video under 60 seconds to use as a ‘teaser’ and/or on more limited social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter).

The Investment

The standard rate for INVITE is $3,500.

For Movement Films to have the greatest impact, I reserve a select amount of discounted options each year for organizations/people directly affected by systemic oppression and economic injustice. We can discuss this option during our consult call if it is available and feels like a right fit for your project..
